Playing Nice at the NY Times

This memo (on Poynter, via PaidSearch.org) marks a really interesting next chapter in the evolution of online journalism. Though a bit off topic for us, we have previously noted comments by Bill Keller, the Times’ Executive Editor, regarding his less-than-rosey assessment of bloggers’ journalistic standards. This new organizational development adds additional color to these remarks. Not surprisingly, the Times is trying to do online journalism the right way (whatever that is). Although the Times’ subsidiary, About.com, is not mentioned in the memo, one can’t help wonder how — or if — the About model will be affected by this new inclusiveness. More specifically, will a blog-type format (with its hair-trigger publishing model) survive an integrated newsroom?
