Kickmap

Props to Kick Design for attempting a redesign of that sacred information architecture icon, the New York City Subway map. We had a lively debate here about the new design. The consensus: while the new map is certainly more visually pleasing and, in some senses, easier to follow, there are still some unsolved problems. We think it’s harder to follow the different station stops of the train lines that run on the same track (a big problem with the current map too). Also, the thicker lines make it more difficult to see the street / avenue names underneath.

We had a framed blow-up of the MTA map in our old office. The map was lost in the WTC collapse (somehow carrying our PCs and desk chairs down the pitch black stairwell seemed to take priority…).
