Cool? Yes. Usable? Yes.

Continuing our habit of investigating the ways pure Flash sites are slowly infiltrating industries other than Flash itself, bands, photographers and other arenas where “usability” is not as much a priority as the “wow” factor, one of us recently found the Design Partnership of Cambridge. It’s a beautiful site, aesthetically - does what Flash can do, which is make everything feel like a movie. In this case, one with classical music playing in the background.

However, the site is also very well thought out and easy to navigate. In particular, the persistent nav bar up top acts - as Catalyst partner Jon Mysel points out - like “a mini site map on every page.” (Interesting to note that this same trope was recently picked up by Amazon, which has added DHTML to the tab at the top of its homepage; when you roll over the tab saying “see all 31 categories” a window pops up with all the categories.)
